Tips For Living Through The Cancun Club Scene Part 2

In part one of our series on surviving the Cancun club scene, we discussed issues surrounding alcohol. It is important to know your tolerance level before heading to Cancun, slice it in half and stick to a conservative limit of alcoholic beverages while partying in Mexico. Under the hot sun of the tropics we become dehydrated more quickly, and alcohol has an exaggerated affect. Thus, it isn't necessary to drink as much as we would at home. Besides, while partying in a foreign place it is much safer to keep all your wits about you! Now let's move on to some other tips for partying in Cancun.

Our next bit of advice follows: don't attempt to purchase narcotics in Mexico. All drugs are illegal in Mexico, and even asking how to purchase them can land you in jail. Many of the travel forums are populated with tips on scoring drugs from taxi cab drivers. This is a very dangerous practice. If you happen to inquire about narcotics to an undercover Mexican police officer, who happens to be posing as a cab driver, you will be arrested. Also, the 'customers' of cab drivers are prime targets for swindles, even if he should have narcotics to sell. He could possibly rob you, or the product will not be genuine. It is best to avoid the topic of drugs at all costs.

Our next tip applies to any vacation, no matter where you travel: avoid overly spicy or greasy foods, especially if the spice is not a regular part of your diet. Taking in foods that are spicy, high in grease, and are not fresh can cause some fairly nasty stomach problems. If you plan to frequent the buffets at your resort, try to arrive early when the food has just been served. No matter how vigilant the staff is in keeping foods at the correct temperature, there is always a chance things got too warm in the tropical heat. Drink lots and lots of bottled water. Mineral water in a bottle is great; as it's a refreshing alternative which will keep you hydrated. Finally, protect yourself from the sun - even at the after-party that continues well after sunrise. Cancun is very close to the equator, and therefore the sun is far more intense than most people are used to. Some people find that they burn with less than five minutes of sun exposure! Wear water proof sunscreen all the time, sit under an umbrella or shelter, reapply immediately after swimming, and every hour regularly. As souvenirs of Mexico go, skin cancer has to be the least favorite!
