Building Trust within Your Customers for Any Internet Business | jcis ...

For every new niche business that you start, need to get them to trust you, which can be a challenge. You might want to have your business be completely anonymous. Internet marketers do this all the time. The key thing is to get them to trust you no matter what. Making this work, or influencing the process, can be done in a variety of ways. What your subscribers and site visitors are warming up to is something you can see. When you have this level of communication, your conversions with your links will definitely increase. What they?re looking for from you is solid value. This is what you need to provide for them each and everyday.

A person is more than likely trustworthy if you can see consistency in things that they do. It is all about their personality and behavior, not so much how they conduct their business online. There are many ways that you can exhibit this trait, especially as a business person. Your marketing messages are consistent in tone and the quality of information. You can make your reputation very positive by only promoting high-end products. Your website, and everything that you do on it, needs to be consistent and reliable at best. If you want to have a positive reputation, it?s all about being consistent and solid in the things that you do everyday. There is huge value to be had in getting relationship marketing right. This is such an effective strategy because it really delivers results. Marketing via email or on social marketing
come under this banner. Always remember that the success of these methods is in creating relationships. What helps to make this easier is that relationship marketing has a lot of common sense elements in it. There are specifics as they concern the platform you are using, though. This is just mechanics, though, as the relationship side of things still must come from you. While these things are quite simple to master, too many Internet marketers aren?t prepared to work on them. If your online business goal is to earn by establishing a website that has adult content inside then you must seek adult web hosting service provider to achieve this successfully.

You can find all kinds of successful marketers who are quite happy with feeling like they no longer have to talk to their audience. The old autoresponder series ? they think that this is all that they need to do. Sometimes they won?t even do that. They will send out an e-mail promo every now and then. Remember your roots and that it is your niche audience who put you where you are. People have more trust in those who they feel are real people. Try not to have an attitude with people. Being on the receiving end is never good either. If you are a likable person, people want to do business with you more and more.

In most cases, you will be able to build trust with your audience using these common sense strategies in the article. It is important that you implement the strategies in the proper manner. It is important to have your heart in the right place when you do this. If you don?t care about the quality of your content, for instance, then that is your decision.

Colorful light at the end of the tunnel for radiation detection

ScienceDaily (June 29, 2012) ? A team of nanomaterials researchers at Sandia National Laboratories has developed a new technique for radiation detection that could make radiation detection in cargo and baggage more effective and less costly for homeland security inspectors.

Known as spectral shape discrimination (SSD), the method takes advantage of a new class of nanoporous materials known as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Researchers discovered that adding a doping agent to an MOF leads to the emission of red and blue light when the MOF interacts with high-energy particles emanated from radiological or nuclear material, enabling more effective detection of neutrons. Neutron detection is currently a costly and technically challenging endeavor due to the difficulty in distinguishing neutrons from ubiquitous background gamma rays.

Initial work on the use of MOFs for radiation detection was internally funded by Sandia's Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) program, but subsequent funding for the project has come from the National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA) Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation research office.

"Improving our radiation detection capabilities is crucial to advancing NNSA's nonproliferation mission," said Anne Harrington, NNSA's deputy administrator for Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation. "Preventing the illicit movement of radiological and nuclear materials around the globe supports the president's nuclear security objectives and helps to mitigate the threat of a nuclear terror attack."

The new technology works with plastic scintillators, materials that fluoresce when struck by charged particles or high-energy photons, making it suitable for commercialization by companies who produce plastic and other organic scintillators used in radiation detection devices. Though work remains before it can move into the marketplace, Sandia is currently seeking commercial partners to license the technology.

(See a video clip at www.youtube.com/SandiaLabs that shows Sandia researchers demonstrating and explaining their work.)

Current radiation detection methods are limited in terms of speed and sensitivity, crucial elements for dynamic scenarios, such as border crossings, cargo screenings and nuclear treaty verification. This new technology monitors the color of light emissions, which have the potential to make the screening process easier and more reliable.

"We are approaching the problem from a materials-chemistry perspective," said Sandia materials scientist Mark Allendorf. "Fundamentally, it is easier to monitor the color of light emissions rather than the rate at which that light is emitted. That's the crux of this new approach." Current radiation detection methods use time to discriminate between neutrons and gamma rays, requiring complex and costly electronics.

MOFs and dopants lead to more light

Allendorf and his team have been working with MOFs for more than five years. Early on, they discovered a fluorescent, porous MOF with superb scintillation properties, an important breakthrough and the first new class of scintillators found in decades. The MOF's porosity is a key feature because it allows researchers to add other materials to fine-tune the scintillation.

The MOF's nanoporosity triggered a new idea when team member Patrick Doty read about the use of dopants to increase the efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). These dopants, usually compounds containing heavy metals such as iridium, dramatically increase OLED brightness by "scavenging" the excited-state energy in the device that was not converted to light. This energy represents as much as 75 percent of the possible light output.

Combining MOFs with OLED dopants led to a second breakthrough. By filling MOF pores with dopants, the team created a material that not only produces more light, but light of another color. Doty, a materials scientist working in Sandia's radiation/nuclear detection materials and analysis department, hypothesized that the discovery could be applied to radiation detection.

The trick, Doty said, is to add just the right amount of dopant so that both the scavenged light and fluorescence from the excited MOF itself are emitted. Then the ratio of the intensities at the two wavelengths is a function of the type of high-energy particle interacting with the material. "That's the critical thing," Doty said. "SSD allows one particle type to be distinguished from another on the basis of the color of the emitted light."

Because the ratio of neutrons to gamma rays is so low -- on the order of one neutron to 105 gamma rays -- the threshold at which current detectors can see neutrons is fairly high. Sandia calculations suggest that the threshold for detecting neutrons produced by fissionable material could be lowered substantially using SSD, perhaps improving the "figure of merit" by a factor of 10 compared to the current standards. "In principle, we could quadruple the sensitivity of the gold standard," said Allendorf.

SSD also addresses another radiation detection problem -- active interrogation. Using an active source to create a signal from special nuclear material is an effective means for detection, say Sandia researchers. But current detectors are often overwhelmed by the onslaught of gamma rays. The new materials developed at Sandia can be tuned for improved timing performance at high rates, and the new technology also could be used in radiation detectors for treaty verification.

Tracy Arm and Ford's Terror

Saturday June 23, 2012 Sandborn Canal to Tracy Arm Cove

There is not a cloud in the sky this morning as BJ and I sit reading and drinking coffee. I was up early enough to watch the bright sunlight spread across the peaks and seep down onto the water to rest on the bright white head of a bald eagle eating raw fish for breakfast. We stick with scones. The current gives us slow, revolving views of mountains beyond mountains.

Back in Stephens Passage we encountered a stiff wind with plenty of chop which we quartered without too much discomfort for the five-hour trip to Tracy Arm. We saw the first icebergs (called bergie-bits around here) while still in the main passage but many ground themselves on the moraines (bars) at the entrance to each arm. A large current sucked us into Tracy Arm and then escorted us gently into Tracy Arm Cove. It?s a nice place off the main iceberg route and we anchored as closely as we dared to a stream in hopes of seeing bears in the grass flats nearby. From here we have a perfect view of the snowfields,

the bergie bits floating by like an opening day parade of white yachts and as we swing we scan the shoreline for grazing grizzlies.

Sunday June 24th, 2012 Tracy Arm

I awoke at 6:00 AM to another cloudless day and warm enough already to sit in the recliner on the veranda sipping fresh squeezed ? no, in the cockpit drinking coffee I watch little diving ducks commuting to work in small flights. They require long runways and furious flapping to get airborne and I can hear the reverse thrust of their wings as they land. Otherwise it is quiet with only the caw of the raven and a distant waterfall. An iceberg glides slowly out to meet its fate in Stephens Passage.

I wrote forgoing paragraph twelve hours ago and our quiet little anchorage offers a different picture now. The clouds rolled in with the wind this evening and we may be rocked to sleep rather aggressively. But it was quite a day in between. The first berg showed up at the front door of the cove and stuck on the reef. They became more numerous as we rolled

up Tracy Arm and the wind grew stronger. Williwaws would roar out of the deep valleys above us and then we would turn a corner and the wind would be gone. The walls became sheer and high and hundreds of cascading streams keep these sides smooth and clean. There is always an outflow even on an incoming tide. Around a ninety-degree corner my AIS marked a 186 meter ship and I heard him call that he was comin? round the mountain. It turned out to be a mid-sized cruise ship. Whether it had spent the night in there or not, I couldn?t say.

By the time we reached the fork in the arm we were moving slowly and dodging ice all around. When a speedy tour boat went past I followed him onward into the south arm of Sawyer Glacier and he seemed to know a path close to the wall that was clear enough. Between us and the face of the glacier was about a mile of moving ice flow (covered with seals) so I dropped the dinghy and Kira and I went further into the ice flow where we could turn off the motor and hear the

seals grunting and the glacier calve. It was as close as we needed to get to its rugged face. My guess is the harbor seals give birth here on the ice in order to be safe from predators. We saw lots of cubs. The face of South Sawyer Glacier is jagged and pieces constantly crack and fall. It takes a second or two to hear the roar and then look to see the pieces slide into the water. Then you can feel the mini-tsunami roll across the floating ice. BJ stayed with the mother ship in more open water. On the way back the ice had moved and we had to push our way through the bergie bits to make a path. The chunks of ice push back and we were careful not to get between the big bergs. The 36 degree water is a milky blue while the sun is warm. We packed warm clothes for glacier watching but today we needed only sweatshirts.

Monday June 25th, 2012 Tracy Arm Cove to Ford?s Terror

I think the wind blew all night. I got up once and we were rocking but we

were also stuck tight so why worry when you can sleep. By morning the low clouds and rain made us question our plans to see the tall beauties of Endicott Arm but since Tracy Arm Cove holds no memories of calm comfort (or bears) we decided to take a look and the clouds are lifting as we enter the broad avenue of Endicott Arm. We never made it all the way to the glacier up Endicott. Ford?s Terror is a smaller watery canyon seldom entered by boaters because of its very narrow, shallow entrance and tidal currents.

We used the Douglass cruising guide to determine when to enter Ford?s Terror and because it?s all unsurveyed we were dependant on a hand drawn map in the guide. Low slack was an hour and a half after the tide change in Holkham Bay and we hung out at the entrance until it was slack then proceeded dead slow calling out depths and looking for evidence of rocks in the opaque water. As it turns out low slack may be easier than high slack because you can see the rocks and shoals that are not visible at high tide. The channel

was perhaps only 100? wide and 10? deep at its shallowest and it was frankly nerve-wracking. Charts are worthless and I will mark what I remember on the Douglass map for next time.

Past the entrance the depth drops off and the kelp becomes a better marker of the edges so we could look up at the sheer granite walls rising thousands of feet above us. Countless waterfalls cascade down and one stream in particular has cut a deep channel in the face. We slowed in order to absorb what we could. The narrow path ends in a tee and ?not knowing which was best we took the one less travelled by? which before long ended in a beautiful bowl with snowfields and steep forests to the waterline. We scouted depths along the edges for a place to anchor and dropped it in 60? off a stream bank at low tide, which we also marked on the map for next time. Efforts like this deserve a nap and afterwards Kira and I took kayaks over to the mud bank, which was rapidly disappearing under the incoming tide. Kira watched clam bubbles, and poked around in the shallows until

they disappeared. Back in the kayaks we pushed up the stream and rode it back out ? several times. Kira then returned to her 495-piece puzzle with five holes.

Free Article Directory: Surfing Weekly Options - Utilizing The Spread ...

By Ted Nino

Call options started way back in 1973. Chicago Board Options Exchange started the standard call options. The put option started in 1977. It also become famous to many people. Over the years, its growth rate is really amazing. The investors know how options works. Another conclusion that we can get out of this increase will be that investors are using them comfortably and they are using them with various strategies.

The Chicago Board Options Exchange brings a new class option called Weekly Options in year 2005. After the prior options, weekly options is now available. Weekly options are commonly called "weeklys". Options may differ on many ways, however, "weeklys" and monthly options are comparable. Weeklys only last for eight days while monthly options are not. You can get weekly options on Thursdays and it automatically expire after eight days. On the other hand, monthly options has better expirations which is on every third friday of each month. But with weeklys, investors can now enjoy 52 expirations for the entire year.

Investors can use their own strategies for these options. You can choose a lot of techniques for these options. What are the best techniques for weeklys? With the case of weekly options, you can do just about any strategies that you actually use with longer dated option or monthly options. You may notice that these techniques can be done four times monthly for weeklys. You can only use your techniques once for monthly options.

Investors are taking advantage of the final week of an option's life. More time decay curves can be observed on weekly options. There are twelve times payment for investors who goes for monthly options. Investors were paid fifty-two times for getting a weekly option.

The strategies that you can do with weekly options are much the same strategies with the monthlies. You can market both put and calls option. You can also strategies like covered calls, spreads and condors. The three strategies are both good for weekly and monthly options. Obviously, weekly options has shorter time line than monthly options.

Health Insurance Companies Secretly Spending Millions To Defeat ...

Health insurance lobbying group spending millions to defeat health care reform.

Health insurance companies were an ally to Pres. Obama when the Affordable Care Act was coming into shape, but now the health insurance industry?s super lobbying group is spending millions of dollars on a campaign to convince the public to defeat the legislation.

American Health Insurance Plans, a massive lobbying group for insurers, has spent $102.4 million in efforts to defeat the legislation, Forbes reported. The lobbying group had initially cut a deal with Obama to support the legislation when it was passed in 2010, but in the past year used a legal but secretive process to filter money to the Chamber of Commerce, the report stated.

The cash was funneled under the radar by moving giant sums to the Chamber under the heading ?advocacy,? Forbes reported. Doing this allowed AHIP to maintain a public stance in favor of Obamacare even as it worked feverishly for its defeat.

The lobbying group funneled $16.2 million during the final push to pass the bill, the National Journal ?s Influence Alley reported. The link between AHIP and the Chamber was originally unveiled by Bloomberg?s Drew Armstrong, who found an $86 million payment to the chamber in the same year that AHIP reported giving $87 million to unnamed advocacy groups for ?grassroots outreach, education and mobilization, print, online, and broadcast advertising and coalition building efforts? regarding health care reform.

Neera Tanden, senior advisor for health care reform at the Department of Health and Human Services, told Forbes that the secret funding came down to what is known as the Medical Loss Ratio. This was a provision requiring health insurance companies to spend 80 percent of premium dollars on health care expenditures, and any excess not spent in that manner had to be returned to customers.

New features coming to Google Android system

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? The ability to share photos by tapping two phones together and a faster way to search content are promised in an upcoming version of Google's Android operating system for mobile devices.

Google Inc. previewed the version, called Jelly Bean, at a conference in San Francisco for computer programmers.

Google demonstrated "Google Now," which is supposed to get you the right information at the right time automatically, if you activate the feature. If you say "traffic," for example, it will look at your usual commute to work and show you alternative routes if there's a lot of traffic. It will tell you the scores of your favorite sports teams automatically, and it will keep you up to date on flight statuses if you are flying somewhere.

Google says the Google Now feature will get smarter as you use it more.

Jelly Bean will be available in mid-July. Some devices, including the Galaxy Nexus, will get it automatically as an over-the-air update.

Google says there are a million new Android devices activated daily, up from 400,000 a year ago. Google says there's particularly fast growth in emerging markets such as Brazil and India. Android is now the chief rival to the mobile software running Apple's iPhone and iPad.

During the conference, Google is also expected to unveil a small tablet computer bearing Google's brand.

If speculation about the long-rumored device pans out, the Google tablet is likely be seen more of a threat to Amazon.com Inc.'s Kindle Fire than Apple Inc.'s top-selling iPad. More details should emerge Wednesday during the opening speech of a three-day conference in San Francisco for computer programmers.

Like the Kindle Fire, the Google tablet is believed to have a 7-inch screen, measured diagonally ? smaller than the iPad's nearly 10-inch display. If it's the smaller size, Google Inc.'s tablet probably would be in the same price range as the Kindle Fire, which sells for $199.

A Google expansion into the tablet market would bring another imposing entrant into what is already a battle of tech heavyweights. Last week, Microsoft Corp. announced its own tablet, Surface. Expected to go on sale this fall, it will run on a revamped version of Windows and compete directly with the iPad.

Google hasn't revealed who will be delivering Wednesday's news. It won't be CEO Larry Page. The company revealed last week that Page recently lost his voice because of an unspecified health problem. The condition isn't serious enough prevent him from carrying out his duties as CEO.

Although the tablet is supposed to carry the Google brand and be sold by the company, the machine will be made by AsusTek Computer Inc., according to published reports citing unnamed people familiar the product. Google also recently expanded into the device-making business with its $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility Holdings, but the company has stressed that it intends to continue to rely on Asus and other manufacturers that have embraced Android.

The new tablet is expected to be called the Nexus Seven, a reference to a line of smartphones that Google developed to run on its Android software for mobile phones. The Nexus phones have been made by a variety of manufacturers, too.

Google originally sold the first Nexus phone two years ago exclusively in an online store, but scrapped that idea after a few months.

There are already other Android-powered tablets on the market, but none have proven nearly as popular as the iPad or Kindle Fire. That has raised worries at Google as more people rely on tablets to surf the Internet.

If Apple and Amazon establish themselves as the dominant tablet makers, they could set up their operating systems in ways that de-emphasize Google's Internet search engine and other services. Apple develops its own system, while Amazon modifies Android for use in Kindles.

Apple already has announced that the next version of the iPad operating system will abandon Google's digital maps as the built-in navigation system. That shift could cause neighborhood merchants to spend less money advertising on Google.

Google's new tablet is expected to be the first to run on Jelly Bean.

Analysts are also speculating Google that will introduce another long-rumored product, a home-entertainment system for streaming music.

Google also could provide a glimpse at a pair of Internet-connected glasses that it eventually hopes to market as a way to continuously filter and share life through the Web.

Total of 79 Potentially New Shark Species Found

News | Evolution

A genetic analysis suggests more overlooked species than scientists anticipated, raising concerns that populations of new species are quite small and endangered

From Nature magazine

A genetic study of thousands of specimens of sharks and rays has uncovered scores of potential new species and is fuelling biologists? debates over the organisation of the family tree of these animals. The work also raises the possibility that some species are even more endangered than previously thought.

Sharks and rays are key predators in marine ecosystems, but the life cycles and population numbers of many species remain poorly understood. The family tree of these animals ? which are part of the elasmobranch subclass ? has proved similarly opaque, with little agreement among researchers over their evolutionary relationships.

Gavin Naylor, a biologist at the College of Charleston in South Carolina, and his colleagues sequenced samples from 4,283 specimens of sharks and rays as part of a major effort to fill the gaps. The team found 574 species, of which 79 are potentially new, they report in the Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History.

Naylor says that he was ?flabbergasted? by the result, especially because the sequencing covered only around half of the roughly 1,200 species thought to exist worldwide.

The huge number of new species found raises immediate conservation concerns ? the reason that some of these purported new species have gone undetected is probably their close resemblance to already-identified species. The populations of such species may, therefore, be even smaller than estimated, as what was thought to be one population may instead be several smaller populations of separate species.

For example, Naylor?s work suggests that the endangered scalloped hammerhead (Sphyrna lewini) is actually two separate species. ?Scalloped hammerheads in general have taken a huge hit, so it may be even worse than has been documented if there?s more than one species out there,? he says.

Naylor is now working on a project with the US National Science Foundation to catalogue the diversity of sharks and rays and is working to assist the International Union for Conservation of Nature to map which species are where in the world.

?This will have an impact on what is considered endangered and the fragility of different organisms,? he says. ?These are sentinel species of all sorts of other organisms in the sea which are probably undergoing similar or worse kinds of impacts.?

Circling the answer
One of Naylor?s collaborators, William White, an ichthyologist at the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation in Hobart, says that their work also highlights some of the problems with the use of genetic information in zoology.

The increasing use of molecular techniques provides a new means to scrutinize the relationship between sharks and rays, he says. But it also shows that some of the existing ideas about their relationships are problematic. ?Part of the problem is some researchers mining data blindly without a good understanding of where that data has come from in the first place and presuming the names are correct which in many cases they are not.?

White and Naylor stress that molecular techniques are only of one many available tools and should be combined with conventional taxonomic work.

Ximena V?lez-Zuazo is a biologist at the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan and the lead author of a 2011 paper2 that Naylor says suffers from some of the flaws that stem from relying solely on molecular information. Though she strongly defends her group's work, she agrees that shark phylogeny is still a work in progress.

Gut microbes battle a common set of viruses shared by global populations

ScienceDaily (June 25, 2012) ? The human gut is home to a teeming ecosystem of microbes that is intimately involved in both human health and disease. But while the gut microbiota is interacting with our body, they are also under constant attack from viruses. In a study published online in Genome Research, researchers have analyzed a bacterial immune system, revealing a common set of viruses associated with gut microbiota in global populations.

Viruses that prey on bacteria, called phages, pose a constant threat to the health of bacterial communities. In many ecological systems, viruses outnumber bacterial cells ten to one. Given the richness of bacteria in the human gut, it was not surprising that scientists have found that phages are also highly prevalent. But how can viruses targeting gut microbiota be identified? How do viral communities differ between people and global populations, and what could this tell us about human health and disease?

In this report, a team of scientists from Israel has taken advantage of information coded in a bacterial immune system to shed new light on these questions. Bacteria can "steal" small pieces of DNA from phages that attack them, and use these stolen pieces to recognize and respond to the attacker, in a manner similar to usage of antibodies by the human immune system. The stolen DNA pieces are stored in specific places in the bacterial genome called CRISPR loci (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats).

"In our study we searched for such stolen phage DNA pieces carried by bacteria living in the human gut," said Rotem Sorek of the Weizmann Institute of Science and senior author of the study. "We then used these pieces to identify DNA of phages that co-exist with the bacteria in the gut."

Sorek's team used this strategy to identify and analyze phages present in the gut microbiota of a cohort of European individuals. They found that nearly 80% of the phages are shared between two or more individuals. The team compared their data to samples previously derived from American and Japanese individuals, finding phages from their European data set also present in these geographically distant populations, a surprising result given the diversity of phages seen in other ecological niches.

Sorek explained that their findings mean that there are hundreds of types of viruses that repeatedly infect our gut microbiota. "These viruses can kill some of our gut bacteria," said Sorek. "It is therefore likely that these viruses can influence human health."

The authors note that as evidence for the beneficial roles played by bacteria in the healthy human gut continues to mount, it is critical that we understand the pressures placed upon the "good" bacteria that are vital to human health. "Our discovery of a large set of phages attacking these good bacteria in our gut opens a window for understanding how they affect human health," Sorek added. Researchers can now begin to ask how phage dynamics in the gut changes over time, and what it might tell us about diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease, and how to more effectively treat them.

Scientists from the Weizmann Institute of Science (Rehovot, Israel) and Tel Aviv University (Tel Aviv, Israel) contributed to this study.

State-run TRT television reported that Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu had called the meeting for Tuesday over article 4 of the NATO charter concerning Friday's incident.

The article says member countries "will consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the parties is threatened."

The wreckage of the plane was discovered in the Mediterranean on Sunday at a depth of 3,281 feet, TRT reported. The pilots still have not been accounted for.

NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said the North Atlantic Council, the principal political decision-making body within the military alliance, would meet in Brussels on Tuesday to discuss the incident.

"Turkey has requested consultations under Article 4 of Nato?s founding Washington Treaty,? she told Reuters.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton condemned the jet downing as "brazen and unacceptable" and vowed close U.S. cooperation with Turkey to promote a political transition in Syria.

Britain's Foreign Secretary William Hague said Sunday that he was "gravely concerned by the Syrian regime's action in shooting down" the plane, and said Davutoglu had told him no warning was given.

Turkey: Syria's downing of military jet cannot be ignored

"This outrageous act underlines how far beyond accepted behavior the Syrian regime has put itself and I condemn it wholeheartedly," Hague said in a statement. "The Assad regime should not make the mistake of believing that it can act with impunity. It will be held to account for its behavior. The UK stands ready to pursue robust action at the United Nations Security Council."

Hague met last week with U.N and Arab League special envoy Kofi Annan for talks on plans for an international summit, while British officials discussed the issue in Geneva on Saturday with members of Annan's team.

"This deplorable incident underlines the urgent need to find a solution to the current crisis in Syria in order to bring an end to the violence and to achieve a genuine political transition," Hague said.

Davutoglu said earlier Sunday that the jet was downed in "international airspace" after it mistakenly strayed into Syria, but the plane was not on a spying mission. He said the plane had entered Syria on Friday, but quickly left when warned by Turkey.

The plane had no "covert mission related to Syria," Davutoglu said, adding that it was purely on a training flight to test Turkey's radar capabilities.

Davutoglu said the plane was shot down one mile inside the airspace several minutes after it left Syria.

Syria on Saturday insisted the shooting was "not an attack," and that the plane had violated its airspace.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

Oil, Corruption And a 26-Year Regime: Uganda's Museveni Clings To Power After Wearing Out His Welcome

Kampala -- A year after winning a disputed presidential election, Yoweri Museveni, who has ruled Uganda for 26 years after wresting power as a guerrilla fighter, is facing his biggest challenge ever.

That challenge is a wave of mass protests that began last April when Ugandans, led by opposition leader and three-time presidential candidate Kizza Bisigye, took to the streets to protest swelling commodity prices, soaring unemployment and allegations that Museveni is a corrupt leader.

These complaints represent a sharp turnaround for Museveni, who was hailed as a reformer when he came to power in 1986 and was supported by the United States and other Western countries. At the time, he was lauded as a man who could oversee political liberalization and economic growth. But while Uganda has had many years of growth under Museveni, recently the economy has steadily worsened. Inflation was a staggering 18.6 percent in May, although it fell from 20 percent in the previous month. By comparison, inflation in the U.S. was just 1.7 percent that month.

And while the economy is still growing at a relatively fast clip, the pace is slowing: in fiscal year 2011, Uganda's GDP grew 6.7 percent. But in the current fiscal year, ending in June, GDP growth is expected to have slowed considerably to about 3.2 percent.

Still, Uganda's economy has a lot going for it. A landlocked country in East Africa, home to 34.5 million people, Uganda is rich in natural resources and mineral deposits. And early in 2010, 2.5 billion barrels of crude oil were discovered here.

Follow us

In years past Museveni would have been given plenty of credit for keeping the country's economy doing as well as it is, despite the downdrafts. But his black marks are adding up so quickly that these days he gets much more blame than accolades.

He has been accused of corruption, particularly over campaign financing and secretive oil contracts; in October, Uganda's parliament suspended all new deals in the oil sector after claims emerged that UK-based Tullow Oil paid multi-million dollar bribes to government ministers in order to influence decisions.

And the Ugandan president has been charged with nepotism. His wife, Janet Museveni, was given a cabinet position as minister. His son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is a lieutenant colonel in the army, known as the Uganda People's Defense Force or UPDF, and commander of the Special Forces Group, which is responsible for the protection of the president.

"The point is that the protests would be completely ineffective if they were not popular. What makes them popular is that people have actual grievances that have made them have made them turn out in large numbers," Bisigye told journalists.

Museveni responded by threatening to eat the opposition "like samosas," a reference to the Indian food popular in a country where Indians are numerous. He's followed through on that promise by unleashing his police forces onto protesters, resulting in often violent confrontations that have left dozens dead and hundreds injured.

Despite this crackdown, the opposition isn't letting up; hardly a day passes here without the dispersing or arresting of protesters in Kampala. Uganda's Martyrs Day celebrations, held on June 3 of every year to commemorate a group of executed Christians, saw scores of opposition youth violently arrested after attempting to distribute anti-government stickers during the religious festival in Namugongo, a suburb of the Ugandan capital.

Those arrests came after an incident in which women demonstrators were arrested after stripping to their bras, a radical act in this conservative country, in protest against the alleged sexual assault by Museveni's police force on a high-profile female opposition politician, Ingrid Turinawe. The head of the Women's League of the Forum for Democratic Change, or FDC, was attacked in April, according to accusers.

Now, police brutality and Museveni's decision to use force to control his opposition are fueling his fall from grace. Ugandans just want to see him gone, a notion supported by an April opinion poll by the firm Research World International; 56 percent said they wanted Museveni to resign.

"Within the National Resistance Movement [Museveni's party] people have outgrown the personality of Museveni," Ugandan pollster Patrick Wakida said. "They think that they can live without him. This is very interesting because now Museveni is less popular than his party."
