Play It Again | Equip

Remember those summer nights of childhood when you would rush out after dinner to claim the last bit of sunlight?? One of our neighborhood?s favorite evening activities was a spirited game of ?kick the can.? Those summer days were all so filled with praise.? Play was the only fitting response to God.

As children, play taught us sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.? We learned how to be creative and think a little differently.? And we experienced how it felt to laugh with your whole body. Just saying ?play? still brings a smile to my face because of these rich memories.

But why should kids have all the fun?? In A Play-Full Life, Jaco Hamman describes how to transform normal life stresses into moments of play.? We know that it is through play that children discover their identity and learn how to manage life. He invites us to reclaim and restore that sense of joy that we lost somewhere down the road of life.

Will you join me?? The summer is not over, so consider breaking out the cards and playing spoons. Look through your old board games and challenge your friends or family to a game of Taboo, Wise and Otherwise, Pictionary or Apples to Apples. If all else fails, grab a pencil and paper and play charades!

It would be easy as adults to think that the occasion for play is past. But as God?s community, we are called to rejoice and give praise to God with all that we are, everyday, regardless of our age.

Let us play!
