My family has always been big on games. ?Card games. ?Board games. ?Head games. ?Packer games. ?Brewers games. ?Little league, basketball, pee wee football. ?You get the drill. ?Games, games, games. ?Wheee.
As a child, one of my favorite games was SORRY. ?Maybe because my grandma would play this with me whenever I asked. ?And my grandma would not let you win. ? Grandma Jo was a pioneer woman. ?She helped run a dairy farm. ?She taught school in a one room, Illinois schoolhouse. ?No one screwed with her, including any of us. ?If you won a game against that woman, you won. ?Celebration ensued.
When I married into the Handeland clan I discovered that they liked games too. ?Card games. ?Cut throat card games. ?They were serious about their penny a point. ?Woe to anyone who did not lay down the correct card during a game of HEARTS. ?One of my fondest memories is when I took all 23 tricks and won the game when playing HEARTS with Gramma Handeland and my husband?s great uncle and aunt. ?I think I danced on top of the picnic table. ?If I didn?t, I thought about it.
When they were little, my boys loved to play WAR, TROUBLE, RISK, which kind of explains their current fascination with CALL OF DUTY, GEARS OF WAR and other games I refuse to look at. ? They also play FIFA and MADDEN. ?But not me. ?Whenever I try to play a video game my avatar ends up in a corner getting shot, kicked or otherwise mutilated. ?Then my kids laugh and 
laugh.
On Christmas Eve, aka Board Game Night, we love to play WITS ?N WAGERS and APPLES TO APPLES. ?My most recent acquisition is the game ?IT WAS A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT. ?This is a game of first lines of books. ?Pretty hard even for an eternal English major, but it?s fun if you play it with readers and/or writers.
Which brings me to the reason for this trip down Fun and Games Memory Lane. ?To celebrate the upcoming release BEAUTY AND THE BOUNTY HUNTER (October 2-a week from Tuesday, folks!!) I have a ?What?s Wrong With this Picture?? game on my Lori Austin website.
